Sakura Exchange Program (2018.7.30~8.7 in JAIST)
Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) in Ishikawa Prefecture once again organized the Sakura Exchange Program in Science this year with three Universities in Taiwan. During the nine-day visiting (July 30 ~ August 07), four students and one faculty from NCKU (National Cheng Kung University) participated the exchange program with short-term research projects and other activities. Based on the MOUs between Taiwan’s Universities and JAIST, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) supports this exchange program in order to promote student exchanges, culture impacts, and international research collaborations.
位於日本石川縣的日本北陸先端科學技術大學院大學(JAIST),今年再次與台灣三所大學合作進行Sakura Exchange Program in Science。在為期9天的訪日期間(7月30日〜8月7日),其中來自國立成功大學共有4名學生和1名教師參加這個交流計畫,展開了短期研究交流和其他活動。根據台灣的三所大學與JAIST之間的合作備忘錄(MOU),日本科學技術振興機構(JST)支持此Sakura交流計劃,以促進學生交流,文化體驗和國際研究合作。
This is the second year of the three-year exchange program. Students in Taiwan who were interested in this exchange program had first identified his/her preferred research teams in JAIST, and then submitted applications with the research proposal and other documents, including the English Proficiency Tests.
這是三年交流計劃的第二年。對此交流項目感興趣的台灣學生,首先需要先確定他/她預計加入在JAIST的研究團隊,然後提交研究計畫和其他文件的申請,包括英語檢定成績。
LNCM group members, Ms. Pao-Meng Lee (Ivy) and Ms. Sri Ageng Sukowati (Ageng), joined this exchange program to the research group of Prof. Hideyuki Murata and Prof. Heisuke Sakai. Other research groups in JAIST, including Prof. Anh Van Ho, Prof. Shinya Maenosono, Prof. Yuzuru Takamura, Prof. Yoshifumi Oshima, Prof. Keisuke Ohdaira, also recruited students from Taiwan this year. Since this is the second year of the Sakura Program, Ivy and Ageng were able to learn from the Ms. Tang-Yu Sung and Mr. Chien-Tin Lin (Larry) who participated the program last year (2017).

Participants of Sakura Program, nine students and Prof. Changshu Kuo from NCKU, arrived at Komatsu Airport in the evening of July 30, welcomed by Prof. Murata and Prof. Sakai. After one night stay near Komatsu Train Station, we took the JAIST Shuttle Bus to JAIST located in Nomi City. Campus tour and other orientations were arranged, that included a cyber-security course. At noon, Prof. Murata and other JAIST faculties companied us to Yuu Yuu, the only restaurant outside JAIST, for lunch. Afternoon activities started with a tour to the Center for Nano Materials and Technology in JAIST, led by Prof. Toshi-kazu Suzuki. After that all students went to the individual research team.
Sakura program的參與者於7月30日晚上抵達小松機場,村田教授和酒井教授前來迎接九名學生和成大郭昌恕教授。在小松火車站附近住了一晚後,乘坐JAIST的交通巴士抵達位於能美市的JAIST。學校先安排了校園導覽和其他入學引導,包括網絡安全課程。中午,村田教授和其他JAIST成員陪同我們到JAIST周圍唯一的餐廳Yuu Yuu用餐。下午的活動開始於由Toshi-kazu Suzuki教授親自導覽參觀JAIST奈米材料與技術中心。之後,所有學生就分散到個人所屬的研究團隊報到。

Ivy and Ageng, along with Prof. Kuo, joined the group meeting with Prof. Murata and Prof. Sakai, as well as their students. Ivy and Ageng presented their research proposals and quickly initiated the research activities with detailed discussions with students. Ivy worked with Savanna to the submicron particle induced light scattering and its potential applications to the OLED devices. Before the trip to Japan, Ivy already carried out the preliminary studies and sample preparations. In JAIST, she and Savanna worked together to complete the new OLED and following optical measurements. Ageng, on the other hand, followed Larry’s work last year. She worked with Prof. Sakai and two students, Mr. Ishikawa Tatsuya and Mr. Abe Yasuyuki, to the so-called all-fiber pressure sensors. She also brought recently-developed stretchable metal electrodes. It was also designed for pressure sensor applications.

In the following few days, Ivy and Ageng also joined the morning discussion every day at 8:40 am. They worked hard, but also made sure themselves with many pleasures in research works and with friends. Students also arranged trips to near-be Kanazawa for sightseeing (Castle, Kenrokuen Garden, and fish market) and souvenir shopping. They also enjoying eating the green-tea ice cream with gold leaf on it. Luckily, this year we also had the opportunities to Kawakita Matsuri Fireworks Festival 2018 (Aug 04). A very special farewell party was arranged in the evening of Aug 06.
在接下來的幾天裡,Ivy和Ageng每天早上8:40也參加了村田實驗室的晨間會議。雖然他們辛苦工作,但也在研究工作中、與朋友相處過程中獲得許多樂趣。學生們還安排前往附近的金澤觀光(城堡,兼六園,魚市)和紀念品購物。他們特別喜歡吃金箔包裹的抹茶冰淇淋。幸運的是,今年我們也有機會觀賞到2018年的川北煙火節(8月4日)。在最後,8月6日的晚上,JAIST也為我們安排了一個非常特別的歡送會。

In the morning of Aug 07 (last day in Japan), all students gave an oral presentation in English to conclude their fruitful journeys in JAIST. Prof. Kuo also made the remark with sincere gratitude to everyone involved in this JAIST-Taiwan Sakura Exchange program. He mentioned the very warm weather this year in Japan, and also the unique of JAIST with respects to its intensive international activities and members. Prof. Kuo emphasized the importance to students joined this program, and encouraged all students to continue their academic careers with visions not just in Taiwan.
在8月7日的早晨(在日本的最後一天),所有學生以英語報告在JAIST的研究成果,為他們在JAIST的旅程畫下完美句點。而郭教授也在最後對參與此Sakura Exchange Program的每個人表示誠摯的感謝,他提到了今年日本非常溫暖的天氣,以及JAIST的獨特之處: 非常尊重所有的國際活動和所有參與成員,郭教授也強調了學生加入這個項目的重要性,並鼓勵所有學生能繼續他們的學術交流,而不僅僅限於在台灣。

International Intercollegiate Workshop on Advanced Materials 2017 (2017.12.16~17 in NCKU)
International Intercollegiate Workshop on Advanced Materials 2017 (IIWAM 2017) was held at Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan on Dec 16 ~ 17, 2017. This is the second workshop based on the MOUs signed in 2016 between Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) and three Universities in Taiwan, including National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (NYUST), and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU). In the two-day workshop, more than 120 people participated, including Presidents from all four universities, President Tetsuo Asano (JAIST), President Ching-Jong Liao (NTUST), Presiden Neng-Shu Yang (NYUST), and President Huey-Jen Su (NCKU). Another VIP was Mr. Shih-Ying Lin, Director of Education Division from Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan. In the workshop opening, MOUs and gifts were exchanged between four Presidents. Four Presidents and Director Lin also gave important opening remarks. The purpose of IIWAM 2017 was to recognize and to encourage the international/intercollegiate exchange and collaboration for both education and research achievements, and expand the success beyond campus boundaries.

Sakura Exchange Program (2017.8.21~29 in JAIST)
LNCM students, Tang-Yu Sung and Chien-Tin Lin, has participated the nine-day exchange program held by Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. There were also seven more students from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), and National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (NYUST). Prof. Changshu Kuo also joined this program.
This exchange program, entitled Sakura Exchange Program in Science, was administered and supported by Japan Science and Technology Agency. And, JAIST arranged this program based on the MOUs with the three Universities in Taiwan.
LNCM的學生,宋瑭鈺和林建廷日前參加了為期九天的研究交流計畫,此交流計畫由在日本石川縣的日本北陸先端科學技術大學院大學(JAIST)舉辦。此外還有另外七位學生參與這個交流計畫,他們分別來自國立成功大學(NCKU)、國立台灣科技大學(NTUST)和國立雲林科技大學(NYUST), LNCM實驗室的指導老師郭昌恕教授一同參與這項計劃。

Prof. Murata and Prof. Sakai from JAIST welcomed exchange students in Komatsu Airport in the evening of Aug. 21. Next day, after the introduction to the JAIST and the program (and some paper works) in the morning, students all initiated their research works in different groups, assigned before the trip. Tang-Yu worked with a PhD student, Ms. Shiho Oyama (Prof. Murata’s group), in the time-resolved PL measurements of FRET-active Janus Particle Co-assemblies. And, Chien-Tin conducted the Gas-permeable Pressure Sensors using electrospun silver nanofiber electrodes with the Mr. Ishikawa Tatsuya and Mr. Abe Yasuyuki guided by Prof. Sakai.
在8月21日的晚上,由來自JAIST的村田教授和酒井教授於小松機場接待交換學生們。隔天,在早上由村田教授介紹JAIST和此次計畫(及相關文書處理)之後,學生們各自到旅程前各自簽署的研究團隊中,開始他們的研究工作。瑭鈺與博士生大山詩步小姐(村田教授實驗室)合作,研究項目為“雙邊不對稱球體進行自組裝所產生的FRET機制中螢光壽命的測量”,而在酒井教授的指導下,建廷與石川徹也先生和阿部泰之先生一起使用電紡銀納米纖維的電極進行透氣壓力感測器的研究。
Other than the tight research works in the labs, exchange students also enjoyed the JASIT campus environment with Japan students and other faculties. They usually have lunch and dinner in the campus cafeteria or the Yuu-Yuu restaurant outside the school.

They also had a one-day off in Kanazawa city on Saturday. They visited the famous Kanazawa castle, Kenrokuen garden, and fish market. And, of course, green-tea ice cream with gold leaf was on the snack list.
In the morning of Aug. 28, all students prepared an oral presentation to summarize their learning process in the past week in JAIST. And, a farewell party was also scheduled in the evening to conclude this trip.
學生們在星期六有整天的休閒時間到金澤市進行觀光,並參觀了著名的金澤城、兼六園以及當地的魚市。尤其,著名的金箔抹茶冰淇淋也名列在學生們的小吃清單裡。
在8月28號早上,所有的學生們準備了演講以總結過去這一個禮拜在JAIST的研究成果,而在晚上也舉辦了餞別派對來為這趟旅程劃下句點。

學生們在星期六有整天的休閒時間到金澤市進行觀光,並參觀了著名的金澤城、兼六園以及當地的魚市。尤其,著名的金箔抹茶冰淇淋也名列在學生們的小吃清單裡。
在8月28號早上,所有的學生們準備了演講以總結過去這一個禮拜在JAIST的研究成果,而在晚上也舉辦了餞別派對來為這趟旅程劃下句點。
